Would You Eat A Camel Burger for Lunch in Morocco? (WW *Linky)

Can you guess what I had for lunch yesterday?  The title gave it away, didn’t it. I ate a camel burger! So did the family.  Well, not all of us. Traveling with a teen vegetarian means more camel meat for the rest of us – just kidding, she had a salad. Camel Burger So, the questions for today: Would you eat a camel burger if you were in Morocco? Would you eat the salad on the plate, if you were in Morocco? Are we in need of Immodium (diarrhea tablets) today from the camel burger or the salad? If You [Read More]

Cooking With a Berber Family

Today we did some cooking with a Berber family. It amazes me how hard the “simple life” really is. We are staying in a most wonderful guest house in Tisselday, a small town between Ouarzaruate where they make most of the movies filmed in Morocco and Marrakesh. Our New Zealand neighbors had stayed here last year and recommended it, mentioning that they had made bread with the women on the floor. This image of preparing food on the floor had stayed in my head for quite a while and I will admit that I was a bit leery to spend [Read More]

Goats in Trees and Pets for Dinner

Really, we saw goats in trees. We are really enjoying Morocco and ready to explore some of the lesser known areas. We left the beach this morning and headed first south along the coast, enjoying hours of stunning beach views, intermixed with a few mud brick buildings. Driving here didn’t seem as frightening to hubby as it had in the towns.  Fewer drivers on the roads cutting him off, donkey carts staying on the shoulder, and almost no pedestrians running randomly in front of the car. Eventually we turned West away from the coast heading to Taroudant. We knew we [Read More]

Amazing Istanbul - Photos And A Funny Story About Guides and Carpet Shopping

We had a long port stop scheduled for amazing Istanbul, Turkey so we thought we could tackle it without a guide. We knew the city highlights, and even had downloaded a self guided city tour.  The only free city tour I could find was in the evening and the timing just wasn’t going to work out for us. We headed off the ship, tour in hand, ready to face what we were told was amazing Istanbul . . . (and it did not disappoint) We didn’t get very far.  When we saw the first taxi, stand we decided it was [Read More]

Future Married Couple for Wordless Wednesday *Linky

One of my best captures for the trip so far.  The little girl was talking away and the boy stuck his fingers in his ears.  Do you think they are a future married couple? And if so, headed for success or failure? Chapel of Bones in Evora (WW)

I posted our Portugal trip a bit out of order to save Evora for Wordless Wednesday.  After all, what can you say about a chapel made of the bones of 5,000 bodies: The saying over the doorway translates to: “we bones are waiting here for yours to join us.” A few other interesting shots in Evora – the Roman Temple at night: Eerie, creepy, interesting, beautiful – what is your view of the Chapel of Bones? Evora Travel Tips: Spend the night in Evora and visit the Roman Temple at night when it is lit up. Stop at the Tourism [Read More]
