Celebrating Two NaNoWriMo Winners in the Family!

We did it! Thirteen year old Sarah and I are both NaNoWriMo winners!

NaNoWriMo winners

NaNoWriMo

What does it mean to win? NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month.  The goal is to complete a 50,000 word draft of your book during the month of November – and successfully completing it means you win.  The last time I checked there were 307,144 participants worldwide.

It is already Friday here in New Zealand, so this post is also my entry at Celebrate the Small Things, the weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit of Scribblings of an Aspiring Author. Join us, it’s fun!

Celebrate the small thingsWhat else are we celebrating?

Just gratitude for the support of friends and family as my daughter and I locked ourselves away for the past month to write.

I know it is still Thursday in the States, so Happy Thanksgiving and Thanksgivukkah to all who celebrate. A fresh turkey in New Zealand is very expensive in November as it is only the American expats who want it. So I get to live vicariously through your descriptions.

How is your NaNo going? Have you joined the NaNoWriMo winners or the bloghop? Please tell me what you ate for Thanksgiving dinner?

  7. Thanks Ellen, Sandee, Steve, Alex, Katherine and Robyn!
Actually, I am really proud of my girl :)

  8. Woohoo! You and your daughter ROCK! That’s a wonderful accomplishment. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving even if there wasn’t turkey. (My mom always made a ham for Thanksgiving. It’s not easy to get pork here, so all us ex-pats make do one way or another…)

  9. Congratulations! That’s huge. It ain’t easy to write 50,000 plus words in a month. I have not participated in NaNoWriMo though it’s a wonderful way to discipline yourself.

I finished a 62,700 word memoir last year that I’ve been shopping around to agents. I’m ready to start a new project while the rejection slips pile up. It’s inevitable. You can’t please all the agent all the time. : ) Keep up the great work!

  10. Hi Rhonda – all I can say is – congratulations to you both .. and such good news for Sarah – that will hold her in good stead for future writing projects … while laughing through Spain sounds fun – I’d love to visit Spain properly sometime! Cheers Hilary
