Chasing leprechauns, searching for four leaf clovers, tapping along to Irish music and drinking – that’s what comes to my mind when I think of Ireland. So, tomorrow will see the leprechauns, and for yesterday and today it is the spirits, more specifically Bushmill’s Whiskey and Guinness. We visited and had tours of both factories. Here are the highlights:
Bushmills
Bushmill’s is the oldest continuously licensed distillery in the world, licensed in 1608.

Barrels for aging the whiskey are stored in this warehouse
Guinness
Since hubby is a Guinness fan, he added the commentary to these photos:

One of the gates to the brewery

The original license to Guinness for 9000 years at 45 pounds per year!

Great barley - Guinness uses about 2/3 of Ireland's barley every year!

Tasting Guinness draught

A great extra strong brew at the top

Do you plan to visit Blarney Castle? That’s what’s cool in Ireland… but don’t kiss the Blarney stone. The local teens get their kicks by peeing on it at night and laughing at the puckering tourists.

Yep, while we try to go off the beaten track, we also try and hit the key tourist spots. The girls want to kiss the stone I will give them your warning.
Apparently Guinness doesn’t travel well and the purists claim you can’t get a good Guinness anywhere but Ireland. Hubby likes the cans that have the little ball inside and give it a good head.

I can assure you it is good in Ireland.
I would love to visit there. Of course the Guinness in England is brewed in London, so the Guinness you find in the USA tastes closer to that in Ireland because it’s brewed in Dublin.

I had no idea that Guinness brewed in England too
You just inspired me to find out why Guinness uses the harp as it’s logo. I found out that it’s on Ireland’s coat of arms
I guess I should have included this. Glad you did.
