Last night we ventured out to see the lights of the city. As it is springtime, Moscow is light until 9.30. It was a late night, but a discovery that Moscow at night is even more magnificent than it is during the day. Surprisingly, the metro is busy even at midnight.

There are enough people everywhere to always feel safe, although we follow the basic safety suggestions in our books – don’t speak in our native tongue loud enough for others to hear, stay away from the drunks, keep clear of public gatherings and stay on the lit / well populated roads.

Here are some of my favorite shots:

Bolshi at night

The Bolshoi Theatre lit up at night. We considered getting tickets until we saw the cost.

St. Basils

St. Basil's Cathedral at night, the most beautiful place in Moscow.

  1. Don’t speak in your native tongue? What?

    Have a terrific day. :)

    • I am guessing the logic is that tourists are a target, so if we are heard speaking in English, clearly we are not Russian. We encountered, far to many times, people who would just wave us off because we were not speaking Russian (or because we were speaking English) and not help us, even when I was pointing to a map and asking for guidance. However, this was one small negative in an otherwise amazing part of our trip. I loved Moscow and really wish I could have spent more time in Russia.

  2. Beautiful lights!

  3. 95% of staying safe while travelling is just plain common sense. Many young travellers get themselves into strife by doing things they wouldn’t normally do and thinking they are bullet proof.

    St Basil’s is just beautiful!

  4. Stunning, and I am sure the photos or images you see on tv don’t even come close.
