Funny things kids sayAre you ready for some great laughs? I have been reading “Heard on the Playground – Funny Things Kids Say” by Andrea Sherr and have been giggling for hours. It is non-stop laughs from cover to cover.

As a mom, I am more than aware that one can never predict what a child will say. Sometimes our best laughs come from those innocent wee darlings. Andrea Sherr knows that. While most of us just have a chuckle and remain thankful we have been provided with a good sense of humor, Andrea took it a step further.

First she launched the very funny Heard on the Playground website, where parents can submit short funny stories. Read them all and I am sure you will recognize a few from me. I just can’t resist sharing a laugh.

Now she has taken it a huge step forward with her new book of the same name. If you are like me, and you still prefer to hold a book in your hands when you are reading, you will be thrilled to know that Heard on the Playground is available from Amazon.

I completely agree with this excerpt from the back cover:

“This book is like Kids Say the Darndest Things on a sugar high with a twist of 21st century reality thrown in.  Kids make us laugh at all the wrong moments – Heard on the Playground puts some of the best in one place.”

So what will you find in this funny book?  Exactly what the tag line says, “Funny things kids say” organized in 15 categories including family, age, gross, food, potty training and more. There is also a section in the back listing blog contributors (Thanks you Andrea for including Laugh Quotes.). Here are a few of my favorites:

“As I sit in the living room listening, I can hear my husband talking to our son.  My husband says, “Quiet I think I hear ducks.” To which our son responds, “Dad, you’re suppose to tell me to pull your finger first.” Jerry, 5 – Illinois

“We were in line buying a potty chair to toilet train my young son.  He announced to the lady behind us, “I’m getting potty trained . . . . then no more F***king diapers.” We were way more careful about what we said around the kids after that. Mikey, 3- Texas

I recently asked my third grade students, “What happens when a boy reaches puberty?” One of my students confidently responded, ” He says goodbye to boyhood and looks forward to adultery. 2nd Grade teacher – California

The charming child drawn illustrations found throughout the book add to the fun.

Personally, I think this book would make a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift for any mom, grandma or better still – a baby shower gift for a new mom (whether the first or 14th child, this book will keep mom laughing.)

Here is your chance to win a copy of this hilarious book – actually it is 16 chances. You can enter one or all of the categories below. Thanks to Andrea for offering a copy of “Heard on the Playground – Funny Things Kids Say” for this giveaway to be run at Laugh Quotes and Kibitz Spot.

  9. In the 6th grade World History class I teach a student asked me why their papers weren’t graded yet. I replied that I am not Superman. Another student said, “No, Mrs. Greenberg, you are not Superman. You cannot possibly be Superman.” I started to walk away, smiling, when she said, “You ARE Superwoman, though!” What a sweet moment.
