I am usually game to try something new.  On a recent visit to MOTAT II (Museum of Transport and Technology, Auckland, New Zealand) the girls thought it would be fun to give the new obstacle course a try.

The course is set up to compete as a side by side race.  The girls went first.

We counted 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . Go.

Off they went.

A sprint to the wall, then up and over.  Next they traverse the tyres (they would be spelt tires if I still lived in the states), swing across the monkey bars, carefully balance on the planks and then a dash to the finish.

My girls are both athletic and competitive.  It was a good clean race.  Lots of laughter, lots of smiles and some friendly competition. They were neck and neck:

My Girls on the Obstacle Course

Looks like fun, doesn’t it? So when the challenge came for me to race their dad, I thought, “Why Not?”

Hubby and I positioned ourselves at the starting line.

At the Starting Line

It still seemed like a pretty good idea.

1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . Go

And off we went. First stop is the wall.  Up and over.

I don’t think so.  I am not really the climbing type.

Climbing over the wall

Next the tyres.

So, a quick glance as the tyre diameter and my Sasquatch feet and it was an easy decision.

Traversing the Tires

I swung through the monkey bars so successfully and quickly, that the kids missed the shot. You will just have to trust me on this one.

Balancing next.  If you have seen my attempts at skiing, you will know that is was time for a bit more creativity.

Just the finish line remaining  . . . I got here first.  You know what that means.  I won!  Fastest time in the family.  I am the new Family Obstacle Course Champion.

Winner

I Win!

Feel free to congratulate me.

And I was thinking I should have one of these Charlie Sheen Shirts – Which do you think is most appropriate:

  1. You cheated. Bwahahahahahaha. You crack me up.

I like the Goddess shirt the best. Fits you perfectly if you ask me.

    I voted for you too.

    • Hmm, cheating vs. creative play. — It’s all perspective.
      LOL
Since you think I am a Goddess, You are forgiven for calling me a cheater (regardless of it’s accuracy) :)
Thanks for making me laugh today too.

  2. Now that is how I play. I vote for the goddess one too. It’s much more your style.

  4. You know what they say – “all’s fair in love and family challenges (which can be almost as deadly as war)”

  6. If the rules didn’t state you couldn’t go out of bounds. Then you won the race and points for creative thinking. Congratulations.

Chalk another vote up for Goddess.

  7. I also vote for the Goddess one! I’m impressed that you even attempted the race with your previous injury. I hope this means you are feeling better.

  8. Goddess for sure. Thinking out of the box as usual.:)

  9. I am glad someone in the family inherited my athletic abilities. It certainly is not any of my grand daughters.

    Dad

    • LOL Dad, I always knew I got my sense of humor from you, I didn’t know I had your athletic ability as well. Lucky me :)

(and for my readers, a bit of clarity here – all of his granddaughters are outstanding athletes, with two of the three on National sports teams, and the the third on an athletic scholarship.)

  10. Now, that’s my kind of race! Congrats on working smarter, not harder! :)

  11. Y’all are just like the Brady Bunch family . . . except Mrs. Brady was always the cheerleader and not a competitor, plus she’d never cheat.

You’re commentluv is giving me an error message this time.

    • We are too small for the Brady Bunch :) We have no boys, except poor hubby. However, I think there was a compliment in there, so thanks. Don’t know why comment luv won’t work for you. (My google reader won’t pick up your blog either).
