Zipping around New Zealand has its own set of challenges. As an American expat living in New Zealand, the initial adjustment to driving on the other side of the road was easy. It took about 30 minutes to adjust, and I was set.
Oddly, New Zealand allows immigrants to drive here for a year without requiring a New Zealand drivers license, as long as the driver has a valid license from another country. We are not even required to take the written test. This becomes a problem when you are driving along and come upon:
Or . . .

(the first is a hazard warning sign and often, but not always, has a secondary sign for “ice” or “flood” or some other hazard. The second is warning of the overhead electrical cables for the streetcar.)
And be sure to watch out for New Zealand wildlife:

(Kiwi Bird, Penguin, Weka)
Of course it isn’t as frightening as the wildlife roadsigns we saw while visiting in Australia:
(Funny Aussie animals)
But that wasn’t the worst. About midway down the center of New Zealand’s North Island we came upon this sign:

Comforting, isn’t it.
Don’t miss my complete collection of Funny New Zealand Road Signs.
I am Zipping to the end.
This post for the letter Z marks the end of my participation in this years A to Z blogging challenge.
I did it.
We now return to our regularly scheduled (every second day) blog posts.
I am tired.
Zzzzzzzzzzz

I took the challenge in April.
If You did too, let me know in the comments so I can follow you.
This post is for the letter Z.

Those are some interesting signs..Congratulations on making it to the end of blog challenge
Thanks Aysha!
I am curious what do those signs mean. Freaky. You are better than me. I couldn’t adjust when I went to UK. I couldn’t figure out which side of the street to be on whenever I made a left turn. No matter how many times I made them I still ended up on the wrong side.

You asked for it, so I added the sign meaning to the blog post. As for driving, jut remember, the steering wheel is always at the center line.
those are intimidating signs!
how often do you see them?
congrats on finishing and it was great meeting you!
happy z day =)
The first one we see all the time. The second one, I have only seen once. The animals, depends where we are, and the big funny one, only if we are taking an eight hour drive to Wellington. Thanks and happy z day back at you.
Congrats on finishing the A-Z Challenge! You really went out with a bang, but I’m glad you didn’t blow up! Thanks for all of your help along the way! I look forward to sharing many more laughs with you!

LOL – thanks Julie.
Love the signs, particularly the “explosives, both sides of the road” – that’s funny.
Congratulations on finishing the A-Z challenge!
Like you, I am feeling the burn and will be taking a moment to catch my breath, after the May 2nd final posting is done.
I have you on my “reading list” so I will be back to visit.
Cheers, Jenny
Hi Jenny, I forgot all about the May 2 posting. I think I am breaking until then. Yes, I loved the explosives sign, until I though about where I was driving.
I would probably turn around if I saw that last sign! Wow. Congrats on finishing. For my last post I have a contest and give away open to anyone. Please pop on by to enter.

The problem is that there really aren’t any other roads. So, if I want to get from Auckland to Wellington, and I am already at this sign, it would hours of driving to go a different way – and who knows what I would find there – LOL. I am off to see the contest.
thanks for the visit. Yes we made it to Z. It was kind of like swimming with those dang Australian killer jellyfish.

Actually I had a lot more fun than that. For me it was more like swimming with dolphins.
Congrats on crossing the A-Z finish line. I’ve truly enjoyed your posts and check you out whenever I need a smile. I too will be relaxing my blogging schedule, but plan on keeping in touch with the A-Z folks I’ve “met”.
